Football in the Community deliver the matchday activities during home fixtures at Meadow Lane.
One local junior club is invited to bring their team to play a match at half time during home fixtures. The matches are competitive but friendly affairs, as teams play members from the same club. The Manager of the teams is asked to select two equally matched teams to play a 6-a-side game. The match takes place in front of the away supporters and the Haydn Green Family Stand. It has become tradition for one of the teams to represent The Magpies, while the other has the backing of travelling supporters in the Jimmy Sirrel Stand. The half time match always provides great entertainment with both sets of supporters giving their full support to their respective teams.
For over 10 years this has been an extremely popular experience for local clubs and young players. Matches between local schools, competing in the Community Cup and Girls Cup Finals, are often decided with a penalty shoot out. Last season saw our Extra Time participants show off their skills and even with players aged over-55, there was a definite competitive edge to the game!
While there is no cost to play at half time and players, all other children and two of coaches are given free tickets (for league matches). All other adults pay for tickets.
