Tri hard – FITC and Portland Centre welcome participants for British Triathlon event

Triathlon at The Portland CentreThe Portland Leisure Centre are proud to host British Triathlon’s biathlon due to take place on Saturday 9 September at 1pm. For just £10 admittance fee, each participant will take on an initial 240 metre swim at the Portland Centre, followed by a 5km run through Nottingham’s Embankment. With no time allocated to complete the route, the British Triathlon event is perfect for novices and experienced competitors alike.

Portland Leisure Centre Manager and event organiser Matt Simpson explained, “Back in early August, British Triathlon asked us if we would be willing to host Nottingham’s Swim and Run event. I’ve hosted and organised similar events previously but none with such an emphasis on recruiting beginners or new visitors to the Portland Centre.”

FITC’s Partnership and Events Manager James Bromley added “Portland is a real hidden gem. It’s fantastic to have a sport governing body recognise our facilities as a potential host venue. With the route agreed and the facilities ready, our next priority is ensuring we get as many individuals down and trying their hand at a new sport”.

FITC continue to deliver over 35 projects across the county, ensuring that everyone has access to support, education and a place to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
