Newsletter #2 – February 2016

Ian-Richrdson-WEB-500As a former Notts County FC player, manager and now Football in the Community (FITC) manager, I’m delighted to write the introduction to February’s newsletter. When I was a player, I thought I’d enjoy working for FITC and was keen to get involved, so I could coach people who would benefit from taking part in a range of sports. I wanted to give something back to the local community who had supported me during my playing days.

Since finishing my career as Player-Manager at the end of the 2004/05 season due to knee injuries. I was offered a role at FITC and have developed many new skills and am now Activity Manager.

I manage our Social Inclusion projects, which involve working with women, men and children. I have a particular interest in our mental health work, which is really extensive. As part of my role, I enjoy seeing our coaches make a positive impact on people’s lives and can see myself working in the community until I retire!

Since taking a less active role in day-to-day coaching, I’ve decided it’s time to get fit again. This year sees the Nottingham launch of the Asda Foundation 10K, which I am going to run to raise funding for FITC’s fantastic array of projects. I see these projects first-hand and know the positive effect they have on participants’ lives. I’m back on the treadmill and feeling good.

Nottingham-10K-400pxFITC have a number of other allocated places for the race and I’d love you to support me as part of the FITC team and raise funding or kindly sponsor me on my JustGiving page (CLICK HERE). If I’m still standing, I plan to up the ante and complete the Robin Hood Half Marathon to raise funding for FITC in September.

I hope that by running these events this year it will raise the profile of FITC’s work and change the opinion that we just deliver football sessions. The scale and scope of our work is surprisingly wide.

To sponsor me please visit www.justgiving.com or to join me and the FITC team, please call Neil on 0115 955 7215.
