FITC are proud to announce that long term supporter of the charity, Rob Green, has agreed to take on the prominent role as an ambassador for the mental health projects run throughout Nottingham. Projects such as ‘On the Ball’ and ‘Right Mind’ offer men and women the opportunity to socialise and improve their health and wellbeing in a fun and supportive environment.
Rob, who is a popular local singer/songwriter has recently been on a UK tour with Eric Bibb and draws upon the varied genres of music he grew up with, including soul, RnB, Indie and Rock to inform his own distinctive sound and style.
He said of his new role with FITC: “Music is such an emotional outlet for me, it allows me to explore subjects that I have struggled to make sense of. The work FITC is doing within the Nottingham community is incredibly inspiring and further highlights the importance of maintaining our emotional wellbeing”.
He added: “As a man there is definitely a pressure to just ‘get on with things’ and ignore our emotional challenges. FITC has managed to bridge the gap between our physical and mental health and it is incredible inspiring to be working with them to raise emotional wellbeing awareness”.
The singer has met some of the participants from the ‘On The Ball’ project and has agreed to take part in the upcoming ‘Walking Out of Darkness’ event on the 27th May 2018. In addition, he will be hosting a very special #ROBGREENROOM event on Wednesday 16th May 2018 as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. Participants from the FITC projects will be invited to an intimate gig hosted at Notts County Football Club with the event being livestreamed on Facebook and looking to encourage further support for the programmes.
Ian Richardson, Activity Manager and Mental Health Lead for FITC said: “It’s so important that men and women feel physically and emotionally strong enough to talk about their concerns and worries and to have someone like Rob supporting and talking about his own struggles is fantastic to encourage more openness about issues that affect a huge number of people across Nottingham.
We’re proud of our projects but, like any charity, we need more awareness and funding to ensure we can continue to offer and develop our support and this event on the 16th May will go a long way to reach more people about the work we do”.
